HIS HOLINESS SWAMI CHIDANANDAJI MAHARAJ WRITES
To: The Disciples and Devotees of Guru Maharaj Swami Sivanandaji and to the well-wishers and helpers of Gurudev's Divine Life Society and its cultural and spiritual work—in Orissa in particular and all over India in general!
Blessed Immortal Atman!
Dear Gurubandhus, devotees and well-wishers of Gurudev's Mission,
Om Namo Narayanaya! Jai Sivanand Gurudev. Loving pranams.
May the Divine Grace of the Supreme Being and the choicest blessings of Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj be upon you. I pray that the present Brochure will receive your kind attention and positive response in the highest interest of our social, cultural and spiritual work. Especially so, at this period when we are engaged in carrying forward Sri Gurudev's noble work with a new purposefulness and tempo during this Divine Decade, the closing years of the present 20th century.
As worshipful Swami Sivananda Maharaj's lofty spiritual life and noble humanitarian activities are too well known to you all, it is unnecessary for me to dwell upon it in any detail. Sri Gurudev, from his little Ashram on the banks of Divine Mother GANGA, brought about widespread spiritual awakening throughout Bharatavarsha and the world over and inspired numerous devotees to take up His Divine Life work. Orissa was—and now is—in the forefront in many respects in propagating Gurudev's teachings and carrying out His spiritual work.
This is a God-sent spiritual facility, about which the present write-up gives you information in detail. This Hermitage of Peace has come to us in a totally unexpected manner, without any effort on our part. Prompted by God indwelling his heart (antaryamin), the monk who was in charge of this Ashram, Revered Swami Shantananda, approached me and urged me to receive this Ashram as a gift from him and to utilise it for carrying on any beneficial spiritual activity. After long, careful consideration, realising the Divine Will at work, it was suggested that the Ashram may be gifted over to Sri Gurudev's spiritual organisation, The Divine Life Society. This is how this Ashram, which is in Orissa near sacred Puri, the holy city of Lord Jagannath, has come to form the spiritual retreat wing of Holy Master's Rishikesh Ashram.
In the light of the above, I feel this is a gift of God and Gurudev Swami Sivanandaji—for the benefit of sincere seekers after spiritual life, inner sadhana and contemplation in an ideal spiritual atmosphere. This Hermitage offers the combination of seclusion, serenity and silent surroundings in a rural set-up. The bracing sea breeze from the beach in invigorating. This Ashram and its activities have my abundant good wishes and blessings. Generous donors and devotees of all branches of The Divine Life Society are requested in the name of the Lord to give the fullest co-operation in all respects—in action, heart and wealth—to this mission of Sri Gurudev.
May the Grace of the Lord be upon you all.
Yours in Sri Gurudev
(Swami Chidananda)
President D.L.S. Headquarters
Letter from Swamiji In-charge
Blessed Divinity,
Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj has written: "The Chidananda Hermitage Shanti Ashram project has my blessing. It was undertaken in consultation with me and under my advice. As such I am interested in its development and progress. I visit it every year for a period of rest and seclusion."
Swamiji has also written: "I feel that this Ashram is a gift of God and Gurudev Swami Sivanandaji—for the benefit of sincere seekers after spiritual life, inner sadhana and contemplation in an ideal spiritual atmosphere. This Hermitage offers the combination of seclusion, serenity and silent surroundings in a rural set-up. The bracing sea breeze from the beach is invigorating. This Ashram and its activities have my abundant good wishes and blessings. Generous donors and devotees of all branches of The Divine Life Society are requested in the name of the Lord to give the fullest co-operation in all respects—in action, heart and wealth—to this mission of Sri Gurudev." (See following letter).
Swamiji has selected Chidananda Hermitage Shanti Ashram as a resting-place, so he has been coming here each year for rest and to fill this place with his divine aura. The place he has chosen for his rest is a Tirth; therefore we should maintain it in an ideal manner befitting him.
A report on the Chidananda Hermitage Shanti Ashram (CHS Ashram)—past, present and future—follows. We hope that, you will be happy with both the progress we have made and our plans for the future. We also hope that in reading the report you will discover one or more projects that you and your friends would like to participate in. They are designed to make it possible for every devotee and well-wisher to take part in this grand sacrifice (yajna).
May the blessings of God and Guru be upon you and your family.
In Gurudev's service,
Swami Vivekarupananda

REPORT ON CHIDANANDA HERMITAGE SHANTI ASHRAM
PAST-PRESENT-FUTURE
The Chidananda Hermitage Shanti Ashram (CHS Ashram), which is blessed by an invigorating sea breeze from the Bay of Bengal just 2.25 km away, is situated on eight acres of land—amidst forest—on the outskirts of village Baliguali. It is just 4 km along the Puri-Konark marine drive from the holy town of Puri—the seat of the world-famous Lord Jagannath. Puri is 60 km by road from the state capital of Orissa, Bhubaneswar, and also has direct rail links with Calcutta, New Delhi and Tirupati as well as Bhubaneswar. Bhubaneswar has a major air terminal—with direct links to Madras, Delhi, Calcutta, Hyderabad and Mumbai—which is being developed as an international airport.
The Ashram was gifted to The Divine Life Society Headquarters, Rishikesh, on April 14, 1993 as outlined in revered Swami Chidanandaji's letter on the previous page. The Board of Trustees of the D.L.S. H.Q. appointed its Treasurer, Sri Swami Dayanandaji Maharaj, to be Chairman of the Management Committee of the CHS Ashram. The Management Committee, which also consists of Swami Ramaswarupanandaji (Assistant to the Chairman), Br. Guruprasad Chaitanya (CHS Ashram In-charge), Sri K.C. Sahu and Sri Mahesh Tripathi, has been granted financial authority for jointly passing bills and payment of vouchers relating to the expenses of the Ashram.
A chartered accountant was entrusted with the task of a regular audit of the Ashram accounts which are submitted monthly to the D.L.S. H.Q., Rishikesh. As arranged, all collections by the local management are credited to the D.L.S. H.Q., under the head "The Divine Life Society Headquarter Account" in the State Bank of India, Puri. After going through the monthly audited statement, the Headquarters passes the account sanctioning the monthly expenditure, and remits the amount by cheque to the Union Bank of India, Puri, to the credit of "The D.L.S. Baliguali Ashram Imprest Account." This account is operated jointly by two members of the Management Committee as authorised by Headquarters.
The Board of Trustees of the D.L.S. H.Q. also resolved that the day-to-day expenses of the Ashram should be borne by the Management Committee through collection of donations etc. from devotees, and that the Ashram expenses (all told) should not exceed the collections made by the Management Committee. As such the maintenance and all development work of the Ashram depend exclusively on the donations, pranamis, etc. of the devotees. The Board of Trustees also decided that fund-raising would be the responsibility of the Management Committee. (Donations may be made payable to The Divine Life Society Headquarters Account and sent directly to CHS Ashram. However it should be noted that all foreign donations should be made payable to The Divine Life Society and sent to The Divine Life Society, P.O. Shivanandanagar 249192, Dist. Tehri-Garhwal, U.P., India, earmarked for the CHS Ashram).
Entrusted with such responsibility, the Management Committee drew up a Master Plan which outlines projects for the maintenance of the inmates and visitors and for the improvement of the Ashram. The Management Committee worked under the guidance, advice and blessings of Param Pujya Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj. With the permission of the Board of Trustees, D.L.S. H.Q., Rishikesh, the following funds are being raised from devotees and the generous public.
1. PUJA MULDHAN FUND
The presiding deities of this Ashram are Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra from the days of yore. Daily puja is offered to the deities in the form of mangal arti and shodashopcahar puja as well as anna prasad offering at noon. Arti and anna prasad are offered (ratra dhoop) in the evening. Along with the worship of the deities, daily Guru padukapuja, morning prayer class and evening satsang are regularly held. Apart from these daily worships, the Ashram observes all the major festivals and pujas observed in the H.Q. Ashram as well as some additional ones.
To meet the expenses of the daily pujas, the Management Committee has opened a Puja Muldhan Fund. Devotees have been requested to donate Rs.1000/- to the fund so that the interest earned may meet the puja expenses of one day. Donors are given the option of selecting a particular day such as a birthday, shraddha day etc. on which puja will be offered in their name—for their peace and prosperity in particular and for world peace in general. Prasad is sent by post to each donor of the day.
Many devotees have already donated Rs.1000/- to this Fund, and the total amount is in fixed deposits in the bank. However, there are still days waiting to be adopted. In addition, any devotee, whether they have already made a deposit with the Puja Muldhan Fund or not, may request for a puja in their name on any special occasion by sending a donation of Rs. 200/- along with the particulars.
2. MONTHLY PRANAMI
Apart from the expenses of the regular pujas, the Ashram has to meet general expenses including the support of the brahmacharis and sevaks engaged in sadhana-cum-seva, as well as look after the needs of guests who take rest in the Ashram on their way to Puri. In addition, the Ashram premises have also to be maintained.
To meet these various expenses the Management Committee has approached and requested devotees to make a solemn pledge to contribute a minimum of Rs. 10/- each month. Many devotees and well-wishers from all over India, especially Orissa, regularly send their monthly pranami. The amount of monthly pranami varies from Rs. 10/- to Rs. 1000/-. Others send their pranami in a lump sum once a year, and under this scheme Srimati Jyoti Priya (Mrs. June Fogg) of the U.S.A. has graciously deposited Rs. 1,00,000/- in a fixed deposit through Headquarters.
It is worth noting here that many devotees, sadhus and visiting sadhaks come to Puri and pay a visit to the Ashram. Thus the Annapurna Kshetra of the Ashram serves prasad to 25 people daily on average. On special puja days and Akhanda Nama Sankirtan day, prasad is offered to many more devotees. The special functions and their-present supporters are:
1. MAHAMANTRA KIRTAN ON 24TH AND 25TH OF EVERY MONTH. Mahaprasad offered by Sri R.N. Mahasuar, Puri, partly.
2. 8th SEPTEMBER: Birthday of Parampujya Swami Sivanandaji. Ration being offered by Sri Prakash Chandra Samantray of Berhampur and Sri Babaji Biswal of Puri.
3. 24th SEPTEMBER: Birthday of Parampujay Swami Chidanandaji. Ration being offered by Sri Prakash Chandra Samantray of Berhampur and Sri Babaji Biswal of Puri.
4. 25th APRIL: Birthday of H.H. Sri Swami Krishnanandaji Maharaj. Expenses are being covered by the inmates of the Ashram.
5. NAVARATRI PUJA: The materials for this puja are being partly supplied by Sri Jaikishan Agarwal of Kalahandi.
6. SRI GURUPURNIMA AND ARADAHANA DAY: The local devotees and Puri D.L.S. Branch partly bear the expenditure.
7. The following functions are observed, but are awaiting sponsorship in cash or kind: JANMASHTAMI, MAHASHIVARATRI, KARTIK PURNIMA, DEEPAVALI, GANESH CHATURTHI, SRI PANCHAMI, SRI RAM NAVAMI, SRI HANUMAN JAYANTI.
To help us cope with the variety of expenses it is hoped that many more devotees will offer monthly pranami. We also hope to set up both a Brahmachari/Sadhaka Maintenance Muldhan Fund and an Annapurna Muldhan Fund in course of time.
3. TREE ADOPTION PROJECT
When the Ashram was gifted to the D.L.S., there were about 500 ornamental and fruit-bearing trees on the property which had not been properly looked after for many years. In our own humble way, we want to pay tribute and proper honour to Mother Nature and to help keep an ecological balance. Therefore we also planted many other trees to beautify the Ashram and requested our devotees to adopt trees by depositing Rs 200/- per tree each year. Devotees responded in large numbers. Each adopted tree bears the name of the donor on its trunk. However, there are still trees to be adopted and many more new trees to be planted.
Sri Ram Krishna Seth and Smt. Radhika Mataji of Mumbai brought two Alphoneso mango seedlings all the way to the Ashram, and President Swamiji was kind enough to plant them with his own holy hands. Sri Venkata Swamiji and Sri Govinda Rajuji of Bangalore gave some special plants which we have planted. In addition we have developed a small patch of land for a kitchen garden to grow vegetables for the Ashram kitchen.
4. CONSTRUCTION OF KUTIRS, HALLS AND FENCING
When the D.L.S. took over the Ashram, it had only one 3-room thatched building. One of those three rooms was the Mandir for Lord Jagannath. Another was occupied by an old mataji disciple of Baba Sukumar Dasji Maharaj. The third room was meant for brahmacharis and sadhaks. As this structure was quite insufficient for a growing Ashram, the Management Committee undertook to build several new thatched buildings as well as to complete some other essential construction projects as outlined below.
(a) Chidananda Vishranti Kutir for Parama Pujya Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj's rest during his visits. It is a thatched building with four rooms, a hall, a verandah and kitchen. Swamiji is fully satisfied with it. To date he has visited the Ashram on Mar. 16, 1990; Mar. 16, 1991; Apr. 14 to 19 1992; Jun. 29-30, 1992; Mar. 14 to 20, 1993; Mar. 16 to 19 1994; Dec. 15-16, 1995; Mar. 15 to 18, 1996; Mar. 18 to 21 1997 and Oct. 7 to 9, 1997.
(b) Ganesh Kutir is also a newly constructed thatched building with a dormitory hall to house sevaks, guests and visiting sadhaks. In addition, it contains two office rooms, a long verandah and two sets of latrine-cum-bathrooms. The dormitory hall is also used as a meditation hall every morning and evening. With the number of visitors and inmates gradually increasing, it is becoming difficult to cope with the multiple use, so a separate meditation-cum-satsang hall should be constructed to solve this problem.
(c) Kitchen-cum-Dining Hall is a thatched hexagonal building with sitting room for approximately forty people.
(d) Tapovan Kutir was constructed in an improvised fashion and is used to house inmate brahmacharis and sadhaks and to conduct daily Guru padukapuja and satsangs.
(e) Boundary Fencing: When the D.L.S. Headquarters took over the Ashram it did not have a boundary fence. One day when walking over the property with Pujya Swami Chidanandaji, Sri Harischandra Buxipatra, ex-minister of the Government of Orissa, noticed that the Ashram property was subject to encroachment by any stray animal or passer-by. Therefore he generously donated funds so that the Management Committee was able to erect a barbed wire boundary fence with cement pillars.
Ultimately, for maximum security, we hope to be able to construct a stone or brick boundary wall.
(f) Water: When the Ashram came under the management of The Divine Life Society, the only source of water was a small pond inside the campus. As the water was not suitable for cooking, drinking and Mandir worship purposes, the Management Committee felt the need of a better water supply arrangement. With the help of donations for this purpose—especially a gracious donation of Rs.l,00,000/- from Srimati Chandri Darianani Mataji of Mumbai—we now have an 8-inch bore tube well. Though now there is no shortage of water, the campus still needs an overhead water tank complete with piping arrangements so that plants and adopted trees in every nook and corner of the Ashram may be well watered. The estimate for the overhead tank and piping is approximately Rs.3,00,000/-.
(g) Deer Enclosure: The villagers found two deer calves—one male and one female—abandoned by their mother in the nearby forest. They handed them over to the Ashram to tend, and the deer are now safely inside a fence. Devotees interested in the preservation of our wildlife heritage are welcome to adopt a deer or to contribute to part of their upkeep, which now comes to about Rs.700/- per month for the pair.
(h) General Maintenance: In addition to the above, the Ashram requires general maintenance including:
(1) Annual repairing, re-thatching and whitewashing of Vishranti Kutir, Tapovan Kutir, Ganesh Kutir, Kitchen-cum-dining hall and the present Mandir complex (approximately Rs.25,000/- per year).
(2) The kitchen garden and the garden around Vishranti Kutir (approximately Rs. 15,000/- per year).
(3) Roadways and paths inside the Ashram campus (approximately Rs.5000/-per year)
(i) Gosala: A generous devotee had donated a cow to the Ashram which has been left in the care of a neighbourhood villager as the Ashram does not have a gosala. In the future, in line with our desire to be as self-sufficient as possible, we would hope to have a gosala on the Ashram property.
DAILY SPIRITUAL ROUTINE
The daily spiritual routine of CHS Ashram is as follows:
5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. Brahmamuhurta prayer, meditation and Svadhyaya 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Mangala arti and puja Lord Jagannath Temple 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Sri Guru padukapuja 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Karma yoga 12 noon Puja and anna prasad offering to Lord Jagannath and Sri Gurudev 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Karma yoga 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Evening arti and sandhya dhoop 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. General satsang (from June to October) 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. General satsang (from Nov to May) VISITORS
Visitors are welcome at CHS Ashram. However, should devotees wish to take prasad, at least two or three hours notice should be given so that proper arrangements may be made. Likewise, if a sadhak would like to stay for an extended period of time such as a week or a month or even for a few days to do purascharana, anusthana, japa, kirtan or other sadhana, they too are most welcome; but as accommodation is limited, they should write their intentions at least one month in advance. Management will respond to their letter.
Devotees coming for an extended period will need to bring with them their daily-use materials and be prepared to arrange with management to meet the cost of their own food while in the Ashram. They should also be eager to adjust to the Ashram's routine and activities.
As Chidananda Hermitage Shanti Ashram is an ashram meant for sadhana, we would like to maintain the lofty standards of living a hermitage way of life, Guru Maharaj has instructed that families and ladies are welcome during the day and for all special functions, but are not permitted to stay overnight. However, we will do our very best to help all visitors from out of state to arrange accommodation in nearby Puri.
THE FUTURE
The Master Plan anticipates dividing the Ashram campus into three distinct zones, viz., Karma Yoga or Service Zone, Bhakti Yoga or Devotion Zone and Dhyana Yoga or Silence Zone. The long-term plan also includes the construction of Mouna Mandirs and a 3-tier Lord Jagannath Temple.
Taking care of the trees, plants and gardens, seva in the main temple and satsang hall, and maintenance of the Ashram premises will be the main Karma Yoga activities. Puja, kirtan, satsang, guided meditation and study of scriptural literature will constitute the main Bhakti Yoga activities. (These devotional activities will ultimately take place in the 3-tier Lord Jagannath Temple complex to be constructed as per the Master Plan). Individual meditation in Mauna Mandirs will constitute the main activities of Dhyana Yoga.
To permit these activities to come to full fruition will require that the present 3-room thatched cottage be replaced by the planned 3-tier temple complex and that a number of Mauna Mandirs be constructed. Both projects will require large funds. It is heartening to note here that some devotees from Andra Pradesh have come forward to donate two Mauna Mandirs inside the Ashram complex. The Management Committee hopes that the involvement of many more enthusiastic devotees as well as branches of The Divine Life Society will fulfil these grand projects within a few years.
Details of the working of the Mauna Mandirs in CHS Ashram will be decided by Param Pujya Sri Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj, but an indication of their purpose and how they function in the two ashrams of the late Sri Sri Mota Maharaj is given in the Appendix.
The main target of this Hermitage is mass spiritual regeneration through personal sadhana based upon the universal teachings of Gurudev Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj. Other principles are:
(1) Living in this Hermitage should be in harmony with nature.
(2) There should be a minimum use of natural resource and power. Extravagance should be avoided in all ways.
(3) As much as possible the Hermitage should try to be self-sufficient.
(4) Scientific methods should be used for the development of the garden and orchard, but poisonous pesticides and chemical fertilisers should be avoided.
(5) The general public and casual visitors will not be allowed in the Silence Zone, and inmates of the hermitage will maintain silence in this zone.
(6) The general public and casual visitors will only be allowed in the Bhakti Zone at the time of arti and puja and when the temple is open.
It is good news for all devotees and peace-loving people that some devotees of Orissa as well as other states in India have joined hands to form SWAMI CHIDANANDA SADHANA KUTIR SAMITI (SCSK) which has started to construct Sadhana Kutirs on one and a half acres of land adjacent to the CHS Ashram for the benefit of sadhaks who want to take advantage of the various facilities offered and the highly charged spiritual atmosphere of this Ashram.
The Samiti is registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1960. It has been formed to establish, maintain and run Sadhana Kutirs for its members, to disseminate spiritual knowledge, and to impart practical training in Yoga and Vedanta:
(1) The aim of this Samiti is to give opportunity to household sadhaks to practise spiritual sadhana in seclusion in a conducive environment.
(2) The master plan will be drawn in such a way that social interaction is minimised. Maximum privacy and seclusion are given to each unit with natural surroundings.
(3) The design will be conceived so as to merge with village surroundings.
(4) Puri being a seaside resort, RCC structure will be minimised.
(5) Zero-maintenance oriented structures and surroundings.
(6) Multipurpose community hall with guesthouse, common canteen and common meditation gardens.
(7) Only one motorable road. Zig-zag footpaths through the gardens.
Interested sadhaks may contact the Secretary of the Samiti at our address for details: The Secretary, Swami Chidananda Sadhana Kutirs Samiti, Baliguali, Dist. Puri, Orissa 752002. The telephone is (06752) 23455 or Fax (06752) 24960.
In conclusion, the Management Committee of CHS Ashram extends its heartfelt thanks to the various donors in India and abroad who are making it possible to develop this Ashram into a fully-fledged spiritual centre. In this connection, the Management Committee is highly indebted to the D.L.S. All Orissa Central Committee for promoting the cause of this Ashram through their publications, advertisements in their magazines and in various other ways that have been immensely helpful in achieving the progress to date. And, of course, the Management Committee would like to express its gratitude to the management of the D.L.S. Headquarters for their help and guidance and especially to Parama Pujya Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj who is our constant inspiration.
APPENDIX 1
The Love of Solitude and Silence
From The Imitation of Christ
By Thomas a Kempis
Seek a proper time to retire into yourself and often think of the benefits of God. If you will withdraw yourself from superfluous talks and idle visits, as also from listening to news and to reports, you will find sufficient and proper time to employ yourself in good meditations. The greatest saints avoided the company of men as much as they could and chose to live up to God in secret.
It is easier to be altogether silent than not to exceed in words. It is easier to keep retired at home rather than be able to be sufficiently upon one's guard abroad. Whosoever, therefore, aims at arriving at internal and spiritual things, must go aside from the crowd.
In silence and quietness the devout soul makes progress and learns the secrets of the scriptures. The more he lives away from all worldly tumult, the more he finds floods of tears with which he may wash himself every night, so that he may become familiar with his Creator. For God with His holy angels will draw near to him who withdraws himself from his acquaintances and friends.
Pujya Sri Mota's Hari Om Ashram and Mouna Mandirs
During his period of sadhana, Pujya Sri Motaji had to undergo many hardships for want of a suitable solitary place and for want of getting a regular supply of food. To save others from such troubles and worries, he established Mouna Mandir (Silence Rooms) in his Ashrams, in Surat and Nadiad in Gajarat, to provide spiritual aspirants with an absolutely secluded and safe shelter, a regular supply of food and other daily necessities.
These Silence Rooms may quite properly be termed as "caves of old with modern facilities." They are available to everyone without any distinction of caste or creed. No advice or guidance is given to the occupant unless he specifically asks for it. He can chant any mantra or prayers he likes, and he can worship any deity.
Since they were established, thousands of persons have taken advantage of these Silence Rooms. The aspiring entrant must first contact the manager of the Ashram to reserve one such room, as rooms are few compared to the demand for them. The room is booked for 7, 14, 21 or even more days. As an experiment the entrant should take to silence for, at best, a week. Prayers and meditations in these Silence Rooms purify the mind, create indelible and powerful samskaras (spiritual impressions that will germinate later on), and make the pilgrim's path smoother. Silence does not just mean outward silence, but silence of thought, urges and attitudes.
The routine begins at 4.00 a.m. At 4.45 a.m., tea is served and then hot water for a bath. Personal belongings may be given out for wash and are returned in the afternoon. Lunch is provided at 10.00 a.m., followed by tea at 2.00 p.m. and supper at 5.00 a.m. Everything is supplied through a two-way window. As no post or newspapers are given, the entrant is almost cut of from the outside world. The rooms have an electric alarm bell for use in an emergency.
There is a nominal charge to cover the upkeep of the building, water supply, alert attendance around the clock, electricity, washing of clothes, hot water, two meals and hot drinks. Milk may also be supplied for an extra charge.
The aspirant in the Mauna Mandir completes his silence days with the help and guidance of Pujya Sri Mota's consciousness. It drenches him with the holy water of God's constant incantation and fills the heart and mind with ecstatic lightness. What use are the wealth, position, fame and power you can earn here on earth, while it is only the samskaras of Divine Consciousness that will aid you in your next birth? When no effort ever goes fruitless, can the effort of prayer and meditation be of no avail?
