In Memoriam of Sri Prasannakumar C. Mandokji

IN MEMORIAM OF SRI PRASANNAKUMAR C. MANDOKJI

We have received the sad news of the passing away of Sri Prasannakumar C. Mankodiji, who was a Trustee of the Divine Life Society.

Sri Mankodiji was born on 31st December, 1923. He read Gurudev’s writings in the fifties, and inspired by it, he met Gurudev in 1958. He served the Gujarat Electricity Board for forty years and held the post of Chief Engineer for a long time, and later became the Member (Personnel).

In his personal life, Sri Mankodiji was a sincere Sadhak. He used to get up at 4:00 a.m. invariably and was very regular in the recitation of the Bhagavadgita and devotional hymns. He used to study our publications regularly and had translated many books into the Gujarati language.

His dedication to Gurudev Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj and his enthusiasm to serve Gurudev’s mission—the Divine Life Society—kept him actively associated with it. He became the President of the Vadodara Branch of the Divine Life Society, its Trustee and later the President of the Gujarat Divya Jeevan Sangh. He was also a Trustee of the Divine Life Trust Society. He kept on touring various Branches in Gujarat despite his ill-health. He was regularly attending the Guru Purnima and the Sadhana Week at the Headquarters and all the meetings as well. He was always keenly interested in the development of Gurudev’s Ashram at the Headquarters and in the spread of his holy mission.

On the day of his passing, he had come to the Vadodara railway station and had boarded the train in order to attend the meeting of the Board of Trustees at Shivanandanagar. But before the train left the station, God recalled him and he left this earthly plane on 27th May, 2001. Thus, till his last breath, his thoughts were focused on Gurudev and he was engaged in Sri Gurudev’s mission with great dedication. The sudden demise of this unostentatious, resourceful and highly committed veteran is indeed an irreparable loss to the Divine Life Society at its Headquarters, as also for its various Branches in Gujarat.
